What is this software?

As part of our continuous effort to give customers the best possible experience, Palm offers an update that features performance and reliability enhancements.

Product enhancements:

• Performance improvements to phone application
• System improvements to minimize skipping during music playback and eliminate audio delays experienced on some games
• Performance improvement to minimize delays experienced when loading Blazer browser
• Support for new daylight savings time legislation, plus a simplified Date/Time preference panel
• Increased expansion card support including 4GB SD cards and SDHC cards
• Resolution of certain "wake up" issues that may occur with certain third party push email solutions
• Improved handling of SMS messages to lessen stalling of messages.
• For customers using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with SP 2 and above, an update to VersaMail client now includes an update to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync which adds Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology for push email, calendar and contacts. Also adding other EAS functionality such as remote wipe, policy support, and global address lookup

Bluetooth wireless technology enhancements:

• Increases list of supported/compatible Bluetooth wireless carkits, including BMW and Toyota/Lexus (Denso)
• Improves overall user experience with supported Bluetooth wireless carkits and headsets (e.g. allow user to manually connect / disconnect to a Bluetooth device)

Do you need this update?

On your Treo 700p, press Phone Press Menu From the Options menu, select Phone Info. Look for the Software: item: If the version number is lower than 1.10 and the end of the string says SPNT, you should install this update. If you see anything else, do not install this update.

System Requirements

• Palm Treo 700p on the Sprint network.
• This update requires a blank SD/MMC expansion card and a card reader¹. Do not use a miniSD or microSD expansion card and adapter. Instead, please use a full-sized SD/MMC card between 64MB and 2GB.
• Make sure you back up your information with a full HotSync operation before updating. This update will erase all data on users' devices. Backed-up data can be restored through a HotSync operation.
• The smartphone must be plugged into its AC charger when you insert the expansion card with the update.
• Plug your smartphone into a power outlet and keep it plugged in throughout the update.

• Do not leave your smartphone unattended during the update. The process can fail if you do not respond to prompts.
• Do not reset, turn off, or unplug your device until the update is complete.

How To Install

1		Format the memory card (here's how). This will erase all data on the card. Your card needs to be blank before proceeding. After downloading the file (above), double-click the downloaded file to decompress it. Windows will unzip the file to a PALM folder containing several individual files.
2		On your Windows PC with the expansion card still connected, copy the PALM folder in its entirety into the root directory (top level, no subfolders) of the expansion card. Do not insert the card into your smartphone yet.
3		Connect the USB sync cable to your smartphone, and perform a HotSync operation. Ensure your data has been backed up before proceeding.
4		Disconnect your smartphone from its AC charger and USB sync cable. Perform a hard reset (info). This will erase everything on your device.
5		Connect your smartphone to its AC charger. Do not have the USB sync cable connected to your smartphone. Insert the expansion card into your smartphone. The update will begin immediately. Select Proceed when prompted. The smartphone will reset itself, and the Palm logo will appear onscreen. The update may take a moment to begin.
6		Do not disconnect your smartphone from the AC charger during the update. The update will take approximately 25-30 minutes. ROM is updated first, then firmware.
7		Your smartphone will reset itself, and the Palm logo will appear. Allow the unit to reset until the language selection screen ("Press Center button for English") appears. Press Center. The smartphone will then reset itself again, and the Palm logo will appear. Then you'll see "Use stylus to tap center of target". Go through this process, and proceed through setup (Quick Tour). 8		Your Treo 700p is now updated. Perform a HotSync operation to restore the data you backed up at the beginning. Check your Phone Info as you did before. The Software item should read Treo700p-1.10-SPNT. Finally, reformat the SD/MMC expansion card or delete the files on the card.
