What is this software?

This software patch is for a phone reset issue that occurs under certain specific and rare conditions. Download this patch only if you are experiencing reset issues with your phone on a regular basis.

Do you need this update?

  1. On your Treo, press Phone .
  2. Press Menu .
  3. From the Options menu, select Phone Info
  4. Look for the Software Version.
    • Treo700p-1.42-CDMA The Radio Patch update is necessary and will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
    • Treo700p-1.45-CDMA No update is necessary.

System Requirements

  • Windows Vista or Windows XP only.
  • Palm Desktop required: If you have not already done so, you must install the latest version of Palm Desktop software from the Palm Software Installation CD that came with your Treo 700p.
  • Monitor your computer: During the update, respond to prompts and alerts when they appear.
  • Install this software on a Treo 700p for Alltel only. The update will not work on any other Treo smartphones.
  • Allow some time for this update, preferably when you won't be interrupted by phone calls or text messages. The updater itself will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
  • Watch your Treo: If your Treo screen goes black during the update process, wake it up by gently pressing Power/End . Do not unplug it.
  • Incoming call or SMS: If you receive a phone call or text message during the update, ignore it. Responding to messages or calls will disrupt the update and you will need to start over.
  • Be prepared to back up your data before the update and restore it after.
  • Plug your smartphone into its AC charger and keep it plugged in throughout the update.

  • Important: Settings for some applications are not retained after update process. You may need to re-enter your user data. If you use Email (VersaMail) remember to re-enter your email account password(s).

How To Install

Before you begin:

  • Remove the stylus from the phone. You will need it later in the update process.
  • Connect the USB sync cable to your smartphone.
  • Sync your smartphone with your computer (or use your preferred backup method). This important step will back up your device to your computer.

During the update process your device will be hard reset. You must restore your data to your device after the update process completes, using a HotSync operation.

After downloading the update file (above), double-click the file: Treo_700p_ROW_Desktop_Updater.exe

Follow the instructions on your computer and Treo700p. Your smartphone will reset itself 3 times. You must tap the screen to calibrate your device after each of those resets.

  • Do not disconnect the sync cable or the charger during the update. Doing so may cause the update to fail.
  • Remember: If your screen goes black during the update process, your device has fallen asleep. Wake it up by gently pressing Power/End . Do not unplug it.

The update takes approximately 45 minutes.

This is the final screen of the updater software. Make sure the charger is still plugged into your Treo 700p and then wait for the Palm logo to appear after the final reset.

A message will appear on your computer when the update is complete.

Click "Finish" to close the update screen.

Synchronize your smartphone with your computer (or use your preferred restore method) to restore the data you backed up at the beginning.

Settings for some applications such as IM are not retained after update process. You will need to re-enter your user data. If you use Email (VersaMail) remember to re-enter your email account password(s).

Verify that your Treo 700p was updated

  1. On your Treo 700p, press Phone
  2. If your cellular radio is not on (has no signal), hold down Power/End to power it on.
  3. Press Menu .
  4. From the Options menu, select Phone Info
  5. Check your Software version. If it says Treo700p-1.45-CDMA, the update was successful.

Note: Your device's cellular radio must be on in order to proceed. While powering on the radio to check the software, you may encounter one additional reset.
